Taylor Swift's Sydney and Melbourne Pre-Sale Tickets Sell Out Amid Online Frenzy

Pre-sale tickets for Taylor Swift's highly anticipated Eras tour in Sydney and Melbourne sold out within hours, resulting in a record-breaking number of fans waiting in online queues.

Ticketek, the official ticketing provider, confirmed that pre-sale tickets for the shows in both cities were completely sold out. The frenzy surrounding the ticket sales led to a national record as approximately four million Australians attempted to access the sale site, causing a surge in online traffic.

In Sydney, fans eagerly logged on to the Ticketek website as soon as the online gates opened at 10 am. However, by 1:30 pm AEST, the allocation of pre-sale tickets for the three Sydney shows had been exhausted. Ticketek informed fans that tickets were selling fast, with some price categories nearing sell-out status. Prior to the start of the Sydney sale, an estimated 800,000 people were already waiting in the online "lounge" or waiting area. The capacity for the three Sydney shows at Accor Stadium is approximately 250,000.

Meanwhile, in Melbourne, pre-sale tickets opened at 2 pm AEST, and by 4:20 pm, the allocation for the two shows had also sold out. Similar to Sydney, around 800,000 people were estimated to have logged on before the Melbourne sale began. Disappointed Sydney fans reportedly attempted to secure tickets for the Melbourne shows. The two Melbourne shows at the MCG have a capacity of 200,000 fans.

Given the limited availability of tickets—only 450,000 for the five shows across Sydney and Melbourne—many devoted fans are likely to miss out despite the overwhelming demand witnessed during the pre-sale. Ticketek acknowledged that the demand for tickets far exceeded the supply. However, there is still hope for fans as general public tickets will go on sale on Friday, providing another opportunity to secure seats. The exact number of remaining tickets has not been disclosed.

Despite initial concerns about the stability of the Ticketek website, it managed to withstand the massive influx of traffic for both Melbourne and Sydney ticket sales. Ticketek successfully repelled over half a billion bot accounts attempting to purchase tickets. The company assured fans that their systems were designed to handle high-demand events and expressed confidence in their preparedness. While some fans experienced frustrations with the queuing system and isolated incidents of the Ticketek app crashing, Ticketek and Frontier Touring provided general tips to enhance the chances of securing tickets, such as creating an account in advance, having presale codes ready, and refraining from closing or refreshing the browser while waiting.
