ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023
The ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 match schedule has been announced, along with the selection of 10 venues for the tournament in India. The event will span across 46 days later this year.
The World Cup will commence on October 5 with a match between England and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which will be a rematch of the 2019 Final.
Hosts India will begin their campaign on October 8 against five-time World Cup winners Australia in Chennai.
A total of 10 teams will participate in the tournament, with the first eight having already qualified through the Cricket World Cup Super League. The remaining two spots will be determined at the end of the Qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe, which concludes on July 9.
Key Fixtures:
In addition to the exciting opening match and India's clash with 2019 semi-finalists Australia, there are several important fixtures throughout the tournament.
Australia will face South Africa on October 13 in Lucknow, seeking a different outcome from their dramatic encounter in the previous edition where South Africa emerged victorious.
The much-anticipated India-Pakistan match is scheduled for Sunday, October 15 in Ahmedabad. Their last meeting in the 2019 World Cup was a high-scoring affair, with India achieving a significant victory in Manchester.
Pakistan will play against Australia in Bengaluru on October 20, while England will face South Africa the next day in Mumbai.
India will strive to avenge their 2019 semi-final defeat against New Zealand on October 22 at the picturesque Dharamsala venue. On November 4, Australia will take on their arch-rivals England in Ahmedabad, recalling the memorable victory by the defending champions in the previous edition.
India will have a face-off with England on October 29 in Lucknow, as England defeated them in the semi-final of the 2022 T20 World Cup.
The final group stage match will feature England against Pakistan in Kolkata on November 12.
Knockout Stages:
The first semi-final will take place on Wednesday, November 15 in Mumbai, followed by the second semi-final the next day in Kolkata. Both semi-finals will have a reserve day allocated.
The Final will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19, with November 20 designated as the reserve day.
All three knockout fixtures will be day-night matches, starting at 14:00 local time.
Tournament Venues:
The tournament will be hosted at 10 venues in India, namely Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Dharamsala, Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kolkata.
In addition to Hyderabad, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram will also host warm-up matches from September 29 to October 3.
